ACADEMIC POLICIES
Academic Policies
The academic policies of Spiritan Missionary Seminary are designed to ensure a structured, ethical, and excellence-driven learning environment that supports both academic and priestly formation. These policies guide admissions, course attendance, examinations, and academic conduct.
1. Admission & Registration
New Students must meet the seminary’s entry requirements and provide:
Academic certificates
Letters of recommendation (from religious superiors or credible authorities)
Medical certificate and recent passport-sized photos
All students must complete registration formalities before the semester begins.
Late registration is subject to approval and may incur penalties.
2. Course Attendance
Attendance is compulsory for all lectures, seminars, and official academic functions.
A student who misses more than six hours of lectures in any course without valid reasons is not allowed to sit for exams.
Late arrivals (more than 10 minutes) are marked absent.
Excused absences require written permission from the Dean of Students or Rector.
3. Academic Integrity
Plagiarism, cheating, or misrepresentation of academic work is a serious offense and may result in disqualification or expulsion.
Students must reference sources correctly and submit original work.
Collaboration is encouraged, but assignments must reflect individual effort unless group work is assigned.
4. Examinations
Regular, Special, and Supplementary Examinations are held each semester.
Eligibility to sit for exams requires 80% class attendance and full registration.
Grading system:
A (70–78%) – Summa cum Laude
B (60–69%) – Magna cum Laude
C (50–59%) – Cum Laude Probatus
D (45–49%) – Probatus Bene
E (40–44%) – Probatus
F (Below 40%) – Non Probatus (Fail)
Any student caught cheating during an exam faces disciplinary action, including possible expulsion.
5. Course Progression & Graduation
Students must pass all core courses to proceed to the next level or graduate.
The final year includes comprehensive examinations and a long essay project.
Graduation is granted upon satisfactory completion of all academic and formation requirements.
6. Research and Extended Essay
A long essay (10,000 words) is required in the final year of the Bachelor program.
Topics must be approved, and students are assigned supervisors.
Deadlines are strictly enforced, and late submissions face grade penalties.
These academic policies uphold the seminary’s commitment to quality education, ethical conduct, and the formation of well-rounded missionary leaders.
